Harry Potter and the Cursed Child High School Edition: Wands at the Ready

Overview

All high school teachers or administrators in the U.S., including U.S. territories, are asked to make the case for why their school and/or community is the most “magical” place to produce the U.S. state or territory debut of “Harry Potter and the Cursed Child” High School Edition (the “Show”). Schools participating in the “Harry Potter and the Cursed Child High School Edition: Wands at the Ready” Competition (the “Competition”) should demonstrate their passion for a commitment to the arts, student inclusion and diversity, and ways they plan to promote the production within their communities.

Broadway Licensing Global will select one high school in participating U.S. states and/or territories to be the first high school in their state or territory to produce the Production.  Applications are open from November 17 until December 15, 2023. Selected schools must present their productions of the Show between October 15 and November 10, 2024.

Schools should apply regardless of their technical resources.  The Show is specifically designed so that schools of various sizes and/or technical capabilities can produce the show with success.

The license is not free.  Any school that is selected as a Competition winner to be the first school in that state or territory to produce the Show is still required to pay any required royalties and production package fees to license the show.

The Competition is presented by Broadway Licensing Global.

How to Apply:

High school teachers or administrators must complete all the following requirements by 11:59pm PST on December 15, 2023.  No purchase is necessary to enter the Competition:

    1. Visit www.LicenseCursedChild.com and complete/submit the sign-up form. 
    2. Post ONE short video (30 seconds to 2 minutes) on one or more of the following social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, TikTok) making the case for why your school or community is the most “magical” place to produce the U.S. state or territory debut of the Show. Note: use the same video if you post on multiple social media channels. 
    3. Tag your video(s) with the following tags:

What does “magical” mean?

High schools should think of “magical” as demonstrating how their school or drama program shows a passion for commitment to the arts, student inclusion and diversity, and ways they plan to promote the production within their communities.

Selected Schools Receive:

The opportunity to be the official first high school in your U.S. state or territory to debut the Show. Your license will also include a required production package. Review Terms & Conditions for additional details.

Mention of your high school in at least one national press release paid for and distributed by Broadway Licensing Global.

Who Should Apply:

Any high school in a U.S. state or territory, regardless of technical resources, that is passionate about student inclusion and diversity and has an interest in promoting the production within their communities.

Eligibility:

  • Entries must comply with the Competition rules located at: www.broadwaylicensing.com/wands-at-the-ready.
  • Each entry must be submitted by an authorized representative of a high schools (grades 9-12) in a U.S. state or territory.
  • Public, private, charter, magnet, and arts high schools are all eligible.
  • Only high school teachers or administrators should apply.  Student submissions are ineligible.
  • Entrants must follow the above Competition stipulations and comply with the Competition rules located at [link].
  • Each selected school must open the Show between October 15 and November 10, 2024.
  • Selected schools must confirm with Broadway Licensing Global, in writing, its commitment to produce the Show, within the date range specified above, by January 31, 2024.

Requirements of Participating Schools:

  • Pay for the purchase of a license and a required production package. Review Terms & Conditions for additional details.
  • Agree to and abide by all Broadway Licensing Global licensing agreement terms and conditions.
  • Obtain from each participant in the Production, and require such participant to abide by, a signed Broadway Licensing Global Photo & Video release.
  • Collaborate with intended press and marketing activities executed by Broadway Licensing Global.
  • Provide Broadway Licensing Global with production photos of their production. Note: high-resolution photos are preferred.
  • Provide information for a national directory of winners of this Competition who will be debuting the Show in their respective U.S. state and territory.

The Show is specifically designed so that schools of various sizes and/or technical capabilities can produce the show with success.

All Competition decisions are made at the discretion of Broadway Licensing Global and Harry Potter Theatrical Productions.

While each of the selected schools must open the Show between October 15 and November 10, 2024, if, for example, a winning school opens its show on October 15, another school in the same U.S. state or territory can open with their show on October 16.

Broadway Licensing Global retains the right to refuse consideration to any applicant that does not abide by the Competition rules and/or the right to disqualify any selected participating schools if evidence is present that the school, or representative of the school who submits an entry, violates the Competition rules or terms and conditions of the Broadway Licensing Global licensing agreement.

OFFICIAL RULES / TERMS & CONDITIONS

Void outside the 50 United States and U.S. territories and where prohibited.  By entering the “Harry Potter and the Cursed Child High School Edition: Wands at the Ready” Competition, each participating school agrees to be bound by these Official Rules and the decisions of the Sponsor, which are binding and final in all matters relating to this Competition.

COMPETITION PERIOD: The “Harry Potter and the Cursed Child High School Edition: Wants at the Ready” Competition (“Competition”) begins 12:00am ET on November 17, 2023, and ends at 11:59pm PST on December 15, 2023 (“Competition Period”).

SPONSOR:  Dramatists Play Service d/b/a Broadway Licensing Global, 440 Park Avenue South, 11th Floor, New York, New York, 10016 (“Sponsor”).

Entry Content Requirements:  Competition videos and social media posts may not contain, as determined by the Sponsor, in their sole discretion, any content that:

  • is sexually explicit or suggestive; violent or derogatory of any ethnic, racial, gender, religious, professional or age group; profane or pornographic; contains nudity;
  • promotes alcohol, illegal drugs, tobacco, firearms/weapons (or the use of any of the foregoing);
  • promotes any activities that may appear unsafe or dangerous; promotes any particular political agenda or message;
  • is obscene or offensive; endorses any form of hate or hate group; appears to duplicate any other submitted Entries;
  • defames, misrepresents or contains disparaging remarks about other people or companies;
  • contains trademarks, logos, or trade dress (such as distinctive packaging or building exteriors/interiors) owned by others, without permission;
  • contains any personal identification, such as license plate numbers, personal names, e-mail addresses or street addresses;
  • contains copyrighted materials owned by others (including photographs, sculptures, paintings, and other works of art or images published on or in websites, television, movies or other media), without permission;
  • contains materials embodying the names, likenesses, voices, or other indicia identifying any person, including, without limitation, celebrities and/or other public or private figures, living or dead, without permission;
  • contains look-alikes of celebrities or other public or private figures, living or dead;
  • communicates messages or images inconsistent with the positive images and/or good will to which Sponsor wishes to associate; and/or
  • violates any law.

Entry must be the original, non-commercial work of the entrant, may not have been previously published, may not have won previous awards, and must not infringe upon the copyrights, trademarks, rights of privacy, publicity or other intellectual property or other rights of any person or entity.

If the Entry contains any material or elements that are not owned by the entrant, and/or which are subject to the rights of third parties, the entrant is responsible for obtaining, prior to submission of the Entry, any and all releases and consents necessary to permit the use and exhibition of the Entry by Sponsor in the manner set forth in these Official Rules, including, without limitation, name and likeness permissions from any person who appears in or is identifiable in the Entry. Sponsor reserves the right to request proof of these permissions in a form acceptable to Sponsor from any entrant at any time. Failure to provide such proof if requested may render Entry null and void.  By submitting an Entry, entrant warrants and represents that any persons appearing or who are identifiable in the Entry consent to the submission and use of the Entry in the Competition and to its use as otherwise set forth herein.

Verification and Disqualification:  By submitting the Entry, Entrant agrees that the Entry conforms to these Official Rules and that Sponsor, in their sole discretion, may disqualify an Entry for any reason, including if they determine, in their sole discretion, that an Entry fails to conform to these Official Rules in any way or otherwise contains unacceptable content as determined by Sponsor, in their sole discretion.

Sponsor reserves the right, in their sole discretion, to: (i) verify any element of any Entry, related materials or entrant’s eligibility; (ii) request additional information; and (iii) disqualify any entrant whose participation may subject the Competition or Sponsor to controversy, negative publicity, scorn, or ridicule. By entering this Competition, Entrant agrees to provide any documentation or information deemed necessary by, and in a form acceptable to, Sponsor to satisfy the above requirement if asked by Sponsor to do so.

Entries generated by any means that subvert the entry process will be void.  All Entries must be submitted by 11:59pm PST on December 15, 2023 to be eligible. All Entries can be used by the Sponsor at any time for current or future promotional purposes.

LIMIT: One (1) Entry per high school throughout the Competition Period. Entries received from any school in excess of the stated limitation will be void. Entrant may only use one (1) email address to enter this Competition.

ELIGIBILITY: This Competition is open to high schools (grades 9-12) located within the 50 United States and U.S. territories.  Public, private, charter, magnet and arts schools are all eligible.  Entries must be submitted by authorized representatives of such schools (“Representatives”).  Any Entry submitted by an individual who is deemed by Sponsor at their sole discretion not to be an authorized representative of the school on whose behalf such Entry is submitted may be disqualified.  Only high school teachers or administrators should apply.  Students are not eligible to apply.

Each winning school (“Winner”) must open “Harry Potter and the Cursed Child” High School Edition between October 15 and November 10, 2024.

SELECTION OF WINNERS: On or about a period between December 15, 2023 and January 15, 2024, the Sponsor, in its sole discretion, will evaluate and select eligible Entries received throughout the Competition Period based on the following criteria: the school’s demonstration of their passion for a commitment to the arts, student inclusion and diversity, and ways they plan to promote the production within their communities. Sponsor reserve the sole right to choose fewer than one (1) Winner per state or U.S. territory if, in its sole discretion, it does not receive a sufficient number of eligible and qualified Entries. Prize awards are subject to verification of eligibility and compliance with these Official Rules.

WINNER NOTIFICATION:

Selected schools will be notified of their selection as potential Winners via email and will be required to confirm their acceptance of the Competition prize by January 31, 2024, with intent to produce the “Harry Potter and the Cursed Child” High School Edition show (the “Show”) in accordance with these Rules. If Sponsor are unable to contact a selected school by January 31, 2024, or a selected school is determined by Sponsor not to be in compliance with these Official Rules, the prize may be forfeited and, at Sponsor’s sole discretion, another school may be selected and notified.

PRIZES:

Description:  Each Winner shall receive the following:

  • Right to produce one (1) performance of the Show;
  • The opportunity to be the official first high school in the winner’s U.S. state or territory to debut the Show; and
  • Mention of Winner in at least one national press release paid for and distributed by Broadway Licensing Global

PRIZE CONDITIONS:

Responsibilities of Winners:  Winners are responsible for:

  • Assuming all costs and expenses associated with production of the Show, subject to your purchase of a license (not to be below a rate of $ 130 per performance) and required production package, the cost of which will range somewhere between $1200 and $1800. Exact pricing to be determined. Obtaining releases based on the Broadway Licensing Global Photo & Video Release form from all Show participants (e.g. performers, directors, designers, etc.);
  • Collaborate with intended press and marketing activities executed by the Sponsor;
  • Provide Broadway Licensing Global with production photos of their Show. Note: high-resolution photos are preferred; and
  • Provide information for a national directory of high schools participating in the Competition.

Qualifications:

Upon the production and opening of the Show by a Winner during the October 15 to November 10, 2024 timeframe, any other school within the same U.S. state or territory may produce and open a Show at any time thereafter, even during the same timeframe.

Prizes are awarded “as is” with no warranty or guarantee, either express or implied by Sponsor.  Released Parties (as defined below) disclaim all and any liability for the actual provision, quality or nature of any prize (or portion thereof) accepted by a Winners. The awarding of any prize is contingent upon full compliance with these Official Rules.

PRIVACY:  When a Representative submits and Entry, Sponsor collect personally identifying information about the Representative, including Representative’s name and email address. Representative’s information will not be sold or rented to third parties. Representatives must fully complete and submit all non-optional data requested on the sign-up form for Entrant to be eligible. Incomplete Entries are void.  Representatives may be given the option to receive commercial e-mails from Sponsor; however, such emails are optional. Eligibility to participate in the Competition is not dependent upon Representatives’ consent to receive e-mails and such consent will not affect Entrant’s chances of winning. ARBITRATION: Except where prohibited by law, as a condition of participating in this Competition, Entrant agrees that: (1) any and all disputes, claims, and causes of action arising out of or connected with this Competition, or any prize (or portion thereof) awarded, shall be resolved individually, without resort to any form of class action; and exclusively by final and binding arbitration under the rules of the American Arbitration Association and held at a AAA regional office in New York, NY; (2) the Federal Arbitration Act shall govern the interpretation, enforcement and all proceedings at such arbitration; and (3) judgment upon such arbitration award may be entered in any court having jurisdiction. Under no circumstances will entrant be permitted to obtain awards for, and entrant hereby waives all rights to claim punitive, incidental or consequential damages including attorney fees or any other damages, other than for entrant’s actual out-of-pocket expenses (i.e., costs associated with participating in this Competition), and entrant further waives all rights to have damages multiplied or increased.

RELEASES:  By participating in this Competition, Entrants agree to release Sponsor, and any other organizations affiliated with the Sponsorship, fulfillment, administration, prize support, advertisement or promotion of the Competition and each of their respective parents, agents, affiliates, subsidiaries, advertising and promotion agencies, and prize suppliers, and each of their respective officers, directors, agents, representatives and employees, as well as each of their respective successors, representatives and assigns (collectively, the “Released Parties”) from any and all actions, claims, injury, loss or damage arising in any manner, in whole or in part, directly or indirectly, from participation in this Competition and/or acceptance, use or misuse of the prize (or portion thereof), including any travel/activity related thereto.

OTHER: Released Parties are not responsible for lost, late, incomplete, damaged, inaccurate, stolen, undelivered, garbled, postage-due or misdirected Entries, mail, emails, uploaded photos or videos, or downloaded entry forms; or for lost, interrupted or unavailable network, server, Internet Service Provider (ISP), website, or other connections, availability or accessibility or miscommunications or failed computer, satellite, telephone or cable transmissions, lines, or technical failure or jumbled, scrambled, delayed or misdirected transmissions or computer hardware or software malfunctions, failures or difficulties, or other errors or difficulties of any kind whether human, mechanical, electronic, computer, network, typographical, printing or otherwise relating to or in connection with the Competition, including, without limitation, errors or difficulties which may occur in connection with the administration of the Competition, the processing of Entries, mail, emails, uploaded photos or videos, or downloaded entry forms, the announcement of the prizes, or in any Competition -related materials. Released Parties are also not responsible for any incorrect or inaccurate information, whether caused by site users, tampering, hacking or by any equipment or programming associated with or utilized in the Competition. Released Parties are not responsible for injury or damage to entrants’ or to any other person’s computer related to or resulting from participating in this Competition or downloading materials from or use of the website.  Sponsor reserves the right, in its sole discretion, to disqualify any person tampering with the entry process, the operation of the website or otherwise in violation of these Official Rules. Sponsor further reserves the right, in its sole discretion, to cancel, terminate or modify this Competition if the Competition is compromised by virus, technical corruption, non-authorized human intervention, or any other causes which, in the sole discretion of the Sponsor, corrupt or affect the administration, security, fairness, proper play or integrity of the Competition. In the event of cancellation or termination, Sponsor reserves the right to determine the potential winners from among all eligible, non-suspect Entries received prior to date of cancellation or termination using the Judging Criteria detailed herein. In the event of a dispute regarding an Entry, Entry will be deemed made by the authorized account holder of the e-mail account associated with Entry and they must comply with these Official Rules.  The authorized account holder is the natural person who is assigned the e-mail address by the Internet Service Provider (ISP), online service provider, or other organization responsible for assigning email addresses. CAUTION: ANY ATTEMPT TO DELIBERATELY DAMAGE SPONSOR’ WEBSITES OR UNDERMINE THE LEGITIMATE OPERATION OF THIS COMPETITION IS A VIOLATION OF CRIMINAL AND CIVIL LAWS, AND SHOULD SUCH AN ATTEMPT BE MADE, SPONSOR WILL DISQUALIFY ANY SUCH INDIVIDUAL AND RESERVES THE RIGHT TO SEEK DAMAGES (INCLUDING ATTORNEY FEES) AND OTHER REMEDIES FROM ANY SUCH INDIVIDUAL TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW.

Except where prohibited by law, entry constitutes permission to use each Entrant’s name, hometown (city and state), voice, biographical information, likeness, photograph and any statements regarding this Competition in all media now known or hereafter discovered, for any purpose, including without limitation, in connection with, and to promote, market or advertise, the Competition, in whole or in part, without review, approval, credit or attribution, notification or payment from or to entrant or any person or entity, worldwide, in perpetuity, or on a winners’ list, if applicable. Competition is subject to all applicable U. S. federal, state and local laws and regulations. Winners may be issued an IRS 1099-MISC tax form in the amount of the prize retail value as stated herein.

WINNERS’ NAMES:  The names of the Winners, available after January 31, 2024, may be posted at www.broadwaylicensing.com and in any press or marketing related materials produced by the Sponsor.
