Island Song (Large Cast Edition)The energy and passions of New York City explode with a percussive, soaring pop score in Island Song. An ambitious set of 20- and 30-somethings navigates the promises and perils of big city life: Cooper is an actor giving himself a year to get his first big break; Caroline is figuring out her independent life after a messy breakup; Will, an architect, and Jordan, a high-powered executive, are discovering how their personal ambitions fit with a relationship; and Shoshana is finding herself amidst a flurry of New York City romance. As the city spins around them and their peers, they get lost, fight back, fall in love, face setbacks, and, most importantly, come alive with the strength that comes with conquering the Big Apple. The materials for this musical contain an appendix with pre-approved options for a clean version with softened adult language and themes. |

JORDAN - Late-20s
An ambitious, sexy lawyer. She works hard and plays hard. Deeply engrossed in a dysfunctional love affair with the city.
CAROLINE - early-20s
A free-spirited woman low on ambition in the traditional sense, she's on a journey of self-exploration, eager to take it all in--which looks a lot like aimlessness amid the bustle of the city. Smart, well-read, her style is almost-alternative,
boasting the requisite accouterments, without being fully committed.
SHOSHANA - "late-early" 30s
A woman in her “Late-early” 30s. Independently financially secure, she is driven by a need to fill the empty space of life and a deep desire to connect, but she can't seem to get out of her own way. A real Carol Burnett type. Lonely. A New York native and amateur singer. She speaks quickly.
COOPER - early-20s
An aspiring actor in his early-20s. Earnest and driven, he's left his small Midwestern town to pursue his acting dream. A bit of a loner, unpolished, but a true romantic. (Cooper could read straight or gay, but either way, his sexual identity is not central to his conflict.)
MORGAN - early-20s
A creative woman in her early-20s. Fresh out of a creative writing program, she's now stuck in a temp job. A well-read firecracker, she's trying to balance the need to make ends meet with the search for inspiration. **This role may be played by a male.
WILL - late-20s
Midwestern, sweet and less-than-slick. Taking the city on a test drive but a suburbanite at heart.
JORDAN - early-30s
A high-powered, sexy business woman in her early-30s. She works and hard and plays hard and is trying desperately to balance her fear of missing out with the demands of her relationship.
TAYLOR - mid-20s
A creative woman in her early-20s. Fresh out of a creative writing program, she's now stuck in a temp job. A well-read firecracker, she's trying to balance the need to make ends meet with the search for inspiration. **This role may be played by a male.
STOSH - 20s or 30s
A Hipster living in Williamsburg. Ironic, kitchy, and aggressively apathetic.
VIOLET - 20s or 30s
A party-girl and night-owl in her 20s or 30s. She both longs for and fears a deeper connection with those around her.
TED - early-20s
A boyish, innocent midwesterner in his early-20s. A newcomer to the city, he's lonely but optimistic. Sweet and less-than-slick.
JAMIE, ANTONI - late 20s
A's partner, a man or woman, late 20s. Confident and smooth, a flirt who enjoys the game and who knows to say what s/he wants rather than ask for it--but more sentimental than s/he would let on.
ALEX - 20s or 30s
A woman in her 20s or 30s. A natural observer, a flaneur. She finds inspiration from her proximity to all the city's activity, but she is never at the center of it. This makes her alternately hopeful and melancholy. **This role may be played by a male.
STOSH - 20s or 30s
A Hipster living in Williamsburg. Ironic, kitchy, and aggressively apathetic. **This role may be played by the actor playing TED.
TIMO - 20s or 30s
A Hipster living in Williamsburg. Ironic, kitchy, and aggressively apathetic. **This role may be played by the actor playing JAMIE. **This role may be played by a female (TALLULAH).
WALLENDIA - 20s or 30s
A Hipster living in Williamsburg. Ironic, kitchy, and aggressively apathetic. **This role may be played by the actress playing MORGAN.
**This role may be played by a male (WALDO).
