Shawn Northrip

Shawn Northrip is a writer and composer with an MFA from NYU’s Graduate Musical Theater Writing Program. His first show, a punk rock musical adaptation of Titus Andronicus, entitled Titus X has been at the Washington New Play Festival, the New York Musical Festival, the Capital Fringe Festival, and Source Theatre Company in Washington, DC and at Chashama and the Tank in New York. Recently, in collaboration with the Brazen-faced Varlets, the show was redeveloped for an all female and non-binary cast and rebranded Titus XX. Lunch, a pop rock musical about middle school, was developed with a grant from the Kennedy Center’s Kenan Foundation, earned the Anna Sosenko Assist Trust Grant, appeared in the Capital Fringe Festival, and was an Official Selection of the New York Musical Festival. He other plays and musicals include: The Horrors of Online Dating, and An Adaptation of Julius Caesar, both with Molotov Theater Group; Ramona and Juliet, A Midsummer Dyke’s Dream, the Comedy of Queerers, and Julia Caesar, all with the Brazen-faced Varlets; On the Rag to Riches and Really Into Partying, both at LAFringe with Katie Molinaro. Shawn composed the music for Angel Number Nine, an immersive 90s alt rock musical, and wrote So Late Into the Night, a rock seance, both at Rorschach Theater.  When not writing, Shawn teaches theater at Meridian High School in Falls Church, Virginia. He is a member of the Dramatists’ Guild and an inaugural member of Playwrights’ Arena at Arena Stage in Washington, DC.
