Broadway Licensing Global Announces Winners of “Wands at the Ready” Competition

Following a nationwide competition, Broadway Licensing Global (BLG) has unveiled the official winners of the Harry Potter and the Cursed Child High School Edition: Wands at the Ready contest. After careful consideration, 31 high schools were selected as official winners, earning the opportunity to be the first schools in their state to bring the magic of the official Harry Potter and the Cursed Child High School Edition to their communities.

With over 70 submissions from across the United States, the campaign aimed to empower theatre teachers to showcase why their drama programs were “magical” enough to be the first schools in their state to produce the official school version of the global phenomenon. The competition ran from November 17 to December 15, 2023.

Schools were asked to provide video submissions which emphasized “magic” as how their drama program demonstrates a passion for the arts, as well as student inclusion and diversity. In total, schools from 31 states and Puerto Rico were selected as winners.

In collaboration with the show’s original creative team, including playwright Jack Thorne, director John Tiffany, producers Sonia Friedman and Colin Callender, and with the approval of J.K. Rowling, BLG is adapting the script for school productions. This adaptation includes a shorter runtime and creative techniques that cater to schools with large or small budgets. A perusal script for Harry Potter and the Cursed Child High School Edition is now available for purchase.

Selected schools are required to present their productions between October 15 and November 10, 2024. BLG thanks all participants and congratulates this sample of winning schools:
