Ted Chapin, a luminary in the world of musical theater, led The Rodgers and Hammerstein Organization for over three decades, leaving an indelible mark on the industry. Selected by the Rodgers and Hammerstein families after Richard Rodgers’ passing, Chapin transformed the organization into a dynamic force. During his tenure, it garnered eight Tony Award^®-winning revivals, including iconic productions like Carousel, Oklahoma!, and South Pacific.

As a catalyst for innovation, Chapin championed new Broadway productions such as Rodgers + Hammerstein’s Cinderella and Irving Berlin’s White Christmas. His influence extended to television with acclaimed productions like The Sound of Music Live! and a multi-racial adaptation of Cinderella featuring Whitney Houston. Chapin co-founded the Encores! series at New York City Center and produced noteworthy seasons at the 92nd Street Y’s Lyrics and Lyricists.

Author of the book Everything Was Possible: The Birth of the Musical ‘Follies’, Chapin shared insights from his experience as the production assistant on the original Broadway production of the Sondheim/Prince musical. Beyond his executive roles, he serves on the boards of prominent organizations like New York City Center and The American Theatre Wing, and currently chairs The Kurt Weill Foundation for Music.

Chapin’s extensive contributions have been recognized with numerous accolades, including the UJA Excellence in Theater Award, the Leonard Harris Award from City Center, and honors from TDF, the Fred and Adele Astaire Awards, and more. An esteemed guest lecturer, he is set to receive an Honorary Degree from Manhattan School of Music in Spring.
