Matt Bean

Dr. Matt Bean is Professor of Musical Theatre and Voice at Western Illinois University, where he teaches vocal technique, singing/acting skills, and Musical Theatre History. He also performs, arranges, directs choir, stages opera, and teaches workshops. His roles include Sweeney from Sweeney Todd and Dr. Craven from The Secret Garden. In October 2012 Matt and his wife Becky performed Song by Song by Sondheim in concert. His articles have been published in the Journal of Singing and The Sondheim Review. His new musical with book and lyrics by Rob. Lauer, Chief Little Will, will go into permanent repertory beginning Summer 2015 at the Mountainside Theater in Cherokee, North Carolina. In April 2014, Dr. Bean served as musical director and conductor for his 21st show for WIU, Oklahoma! His former students are currently performing on Broadway, in national touring companies, and in regional theatres throughout the country.
