Broadway Licensing Global is thrilled to announce the opening of theatrical licensing for the highly-anticipated new musical, String. This contemporary tale has already captivated audiences with its unique blend of mythological and modern storytelling and is now primed to be a standout addition for both professional and non-professional theatre seasons worldwide.
String is a captivating musical where myth and modernity intertwine. The story follows the Fates—three goddesses who control human destinies—as they are banished to a modern office by Zeus. The eldest sister falls in love with a security guard and steals his string of life, risking the fabric of the universe. This tale of fate, love, and human imperfection is both enchanting and thought-provoking.
Among its growing list of accolades, String is the recipient of the Richard Rodgers Award and the Frederick Loewe Award and was a recent selection for the North American Musical Theatre festival. String made its world-premiere at the Village Theatre in suburban Seattle.
String boasts an impressive creative team, including book writer Sarah Hammond and composer Adam Gwon. Gwon describes the score as “a mash-up of contemporary, character-driven musical theater writing, and epic, choral ensemble work—a unique musical universe that touches both the mythological and the mundane.”
Hammond notes, “with three strong female characters at the center, a flexible ensemble, a good dose of humor—and some stunning ensemble work—it makes a great show for theater companies or schools.”
To date, as a composer and lyricist, Gwon’s repertoire of musicals has been on six continents in more than half-a-dozen languages. Hammond held a seven-year playwrighting residency at New Dramatists.
“We are thrilled to welcome String to our catalogue and to support the work of artists like Sarah and Adam,” says Ted Chapin, chief executive officer of BLG. “This innovative and heartfelt musical embodies the perfect blend of myth and modernity, making it an exceptional addition for theatres everywhere.”
In addition to its worldwide release for theatrical licensing, the original studio cast album is now available via Spotify, Apple Music, and other digital platforms.
